Richard Hatch, the reality television star and winner of ‘Survivor’, has begun his nine month prison sentence for violating the terms of his probation, reports the Associated Press. Richard Hatch was convicted in 2006 for failing to pay taxes on the $1 million cash prize that he won after appearing on the reality show’s first season.

After completing an initial three-year federal sentence, Hatch walked free from a Massachusetts prison in October 2009, before being sent back to jail for failing to file his tax returns for the years 2000 and 2001. The television star is now seeking bail in Rhode Island pending the appeal of his nine month sentence, which he began at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn on Friday (29th April 2011). Hatch’s lawyer said in a federal court filing that there are still questions about whether the ‘Survivor’ winner ever violated his release. The lawyer notes that if Hatch is not granted bail, he’ll serve much of his current sentence before the appeal process finishes. The 49-year-old is currently expected to be released from prison on 12th December 2011.

Richard Hatch recently appeared as contestant on the fourth series of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ but was “fired” by Donald Trump during week five.
