He said his appeal to the former first lady not to contest President Mills was for the sake of unity in their party and also to ensure that the government remained on course to deliver its electoral promises to the people of Ghana.
The Goaso Omanhene noted that chiefs were debarred by the constitution from dabbling in party politics but he was concerned about the need for the sitting President to have a peace of mind to serve his four year term successfully and for unity within the party hence the appeal to Mrs Rawlings to rescind her decision to contest President Mills.
“Nana Konadu is my sister and his husband, former President Rawlings is my brother-in-law, I am therefore impressing on her as a brother to rescind her decision for the sake of love and unity in their party so as to enable President Mills to remain focused and serve the people of Ghana for his four-year term of office.”
Nana Bosompra made the appeal in his closing remarks as the chairman at the inauguration and matriculation ceremony of the Goaso Midwifery Training School at Goaso, the capital of the Asunafo North Municipality in the Brong Ahafo Region.
He added that the chiefs and people of Goaso and for that matter Ahafoman were satisfied with the performance of President Mills ever since his government took charge of the affairs of the country and therefore they as ‘nananom’ were behind him.
Nana Bosompra said the role of ‘nananom’ in ensuring good governance in the country was to cooperate and work with the government of the day to ensure that their people and areas of jurisdiction get their fair share of the national cake in development which President Mill’s administration had done for the chiefs and people of Goaso.
“We, therefore, have no problem with the Mills led administration since Goaso, one of the oldest municipalities in the country have had its share of development projects ever since President Mills came to office, and so far as his government continued to meet our development needs, we would continue to support him,” he stated.
Nana Bosompra added that the people of Ahafo were grateful to President Mills for the numerous development projects aimed at giving the Asunafo North municipality, especially Goaso, the municipal capital its befitting status.
