Kenya: Tusker Stay Top As Kcb Within Sight of Leaders

Nairobi — Tusker stay top of the Kenyan Premier League table with charging Kenya Commercial Bank just three points adrift of the leaders.

Rangers FC are third, and are playing some brilliant football, while Sony Sugar seem to regained some form.

The AFC Leopards versus Bandari match didn’t disappoint as coach Nick Yakhama returned to the club with victory.

Premier League fans last weekend witnessed five draws and two wins but there was plenty of interesting moments. One such moment was Gor Mahia’s epic moment when they rallied from 2-1 down against Congo United to claim a 2-2 draw at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

And while Zedekiah Otieno’s critics are silenced for now, “Zico” continues to prove his critics wrong. With the draw, Gor stay seven points adrift the brewers in the seventh position with same points as Ulinzi and Leopards (15 points).

Leopards and Sony Sugar bagged maximum points, with the former gifting their “new” coach, Nick Yakhama with a memorable display against Bandari.

Title contenders

It was also a frustrating day for Congo after seeing their lead slip away to draw tih Gor. While no one really expects the title to have been decided by next month, a few participants usually emerge with a hand raised high by then.

Whether it’s by default or precedence, Tusker FC, KCB and Rangers FC are, at the moment, the title contenders.

If Ulinzi were somehow able to win this season’s title based on current form, they’d surely go down as not bad Champions, but boring ones.

Lacklustre in all areas of the pitch except the back-line, the soldiers were made to chase the ball most afternoon on Monday in their 1-1 draw against an agile Rangers outfit.

Secured point

“We are having more than eight players out with injuries. This has affected our style of play, but we are still soldiering on,” said Ulinzi’s coach Benjamin Nyangweso.

For Top Eight tournament semifinalists Western Stima, it’s a much different storyline as they fell 0-1 away to Sony Sugar on Sunday.

While Sofapaka’s form has been a disappointment (they have 11 points from eight outings), the in form KCB have been a breath of fresh Premier League air for football fans to inhale this season.

Currently second, Leonard Saleh’s high-flying bankers secured a point against Sofapaka in their 0-0 draw.
