You Are Here: Home » General News » Media practitioners should facilitate democratic process – NCCE Page last updated at Tuesday, May 3, 2011 7:07 AM // Mr Amankwa Boateng, Dormaa Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on media practitioners to provide equal opportunities for Ghanaians to participate in the nation’s democratic process. He was speaking at a press briefing in Dormaa-Ahenkro to kick-start activities to commemorate this year’s Constitution Week celebration on the theme: “The State of Ghana’s Democracy – Role of the Media.” The Municipal Director expressed worry about the growing tendency of some politicians to use the media to build personality cults, an enterprise which he said could only sway public attention and commitment from other vital areas of Ghana’s young democracy
According to Ghana Health Service, there is an estimated 1.2 million orphans in Ghana with about 4,500 of these in orphanages. However, though efforts have been made (and are still being made) to increase the numbers of homes to house these orphans, studies indicate that many of them are continually deprived of access to nutrition, education and healthcare.
It is based on statistics such as these that Fifi Kwetey as part of his social responsibility has dedicated Easter Sunday as a day to celebrate, help and fete the children in the orphanages in the Ketu South constituency.
Fifi Kwetey in his third year as the deputy minister of finance and economic planning has extended his support to three orphanages so far including the Friends Orphanage in Klikor, Good Shepherd orphanage in Agorkpanu – Aflao and Providence orphanage also in Aflao Rainbow.
This year’s donation is the third of its kind since Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey was appointed the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic planning.
Presenting the items on behalf the Minister, Mrs. Naomi Kwetey entreats the children at the orphanage to take their studies seriously to enable them tell a success story some day.
The presentation includes Sacks of Maize, Beans, Rice Cooking oil and Used Clothing.
