Dar Es Salaam — The National Netball Association (Chaneta) has joined the list of national sports bodies that have confirmed their participation in the All Africa Games set for September in Maputo, Mozambique.
Chaneta acting secretary general Rose Mkissi said yesterday that they would name the squad for the Maputo games soon after the ongoing East and Central Africa Championship in Zanzibar.
“Players featuring for local teams in the ongoing netball championship in Zanzibar will constitute the bulk of players in the team,” she said.This brings to eight the number of games in which Tanzanian sportsmen and women have so far confirmed to battle it out for top honours during the continental version of Olympic Games.
Other sports the athletes compete in are: boxing, swimming, table tennis, Paralympics, Judo, athletics and women’s soccer. The national women’s soccer team, Twiga Stars, secured a slot into the Maputo Games without even kicking the ball after their Sudan counterparts opted out of the scheduled qualifier.
Their brothers’ hopes to make it into the Games went up in smoke last weekend when they tumbled 5-2 on aggregate to Uganda Kobs.
