Bastian Schweinsteiger: ‘Manuel Neuer would fit in very well with us’

After long spells in which he took heavy criticism, Bastian Schweinsteiger finally delivered a superb match against Schalke on Saturday.

The Kolbermoor native dictated the tempo of the game, and a 4-1 win was the result. After the match, the 26-year-old commented on the result and defended Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was given a cold reception by many fans in Munich.

Above all, one thing can be taken from the words of the Bayern vice-captain: he has internalized Bayern’s sense of entitlement.

“We showed how Bayern can and should play, at least in the first 35 minutes. We were able to win the game in the first half. Unfortunately, we should have done so more often this season,” he told Goal.com Germany. “The way we presented ourselves was true, I thought it was very positive.”

On the topic of Manuel Neuer’s possible transfer, Schweinsteiger is in favour of the move, and criticised certain groups of fans.

“I think that Manuel Neuer has not said or done anything against Bayern Munich. That is why I am rather disappointed that some of the fans were so against him. He is a very good goalkeeper and a very good person. He has a great character. He would fit in with us; I hope he comes.”
