The Al-Hajj Newspaper edition of Tuesday May 3, reported that some members of government notably, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Agyemang Mensah, Mayor of Kumasi, K.A Sarpong and a Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal, met to plot Mr. Yamin’s assassination.
The paper claims these individuals are unhappy with Mr. Yamin’s decision to support Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings’ campaign to contest President Mills for the flagbearership slot of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
Although Mr. Yamin told Citi News he is not certain about the persons behind the reported assassination, he has taken steps to protect himself.
“I have been getting calls that I should watch my steps and my moves in whatever I do because some bigger eyes are after me. So that’s how far I can confirm the story to. An anonymous person keeps calling me and advising me to watch my car before I travel with it. I was also cautioned to watch what I eat and how I move around,” he said.
Asked whether he could disclose the names of his alleged plotters, Mr. Yammin said “Actually I don’t think it will even be right for me to put it out there. I think it is just a matter of being cautious in whatever I do from now onwards. So I have taken that in good faith and I am just watching my steps”.
Efforts by Citi News to contact some of the individuals alleged to be plotting against Mr. Joseph Yamin for their reaction have proved futile.
