Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Tema West, Abraham Osei Aidoo, has declared his intention to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate in the constituency while alleging that the NPP is not a truthful party.
According to Mr. Osei Aidoo, the leadership of the NPP are people who do not conduct affairs in truth and are doing things that will bring down the party eventually.
He said the party needs to be reformed because corrupt executives have taken over the party stating that it is his desire to see a transformation in the party that has informed his decision to contest as an independent candidate.
“I have decided to contest as an independent candidate and bear the consequences. There is no truth now in the NPP, only dishonesty, corruption, and personal aggrandizing.
“I know the price I will pay; I know what I will lose but I have decided to go independent and I know the party will be reformed from today,” he said.
Mr. Osei Aidoo, who was also a Majority Leader in Parliament, lost the 2008 primaries in Tema West under controversial circumstances to incumbent MP, Irene Naa Torshie Addo and he now describes the voter’s album of the constituency as a fraudulent one.
He alleged that many of the executives of the constituency as are a product of the fraudulent happenings in the party which the national executives have turned a blind eye to adding that he wants to teach the leadership a lesson hence his decision to go solo.
He however warned party executives not to call his phone or try to talk him into rescinding his decision.
“I am telling the whole country I am contesting the next election and nothing will stop me. There is no person in the country that must call me or I will meet. This decision is personal, irrevocable and non-negotiable,” he stressed.
Per this decision, Mr. Aidoo would be vying for the seat against the NPP’s Irene Naa Torshie Addo who was re-elected unopposed by the party on Saturday and any candidate who emerges from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
But he has ruled out Madam Torshie Addo as a contender. “I will tell you the election will be between me and the NDC candidate and I will win hands down,” he said.
Should he win, he says he will be truly independent and will not align himself to any party in Parliament while helping to bring development to Tema West.
Some polling station executives who have been speaking to Adom News said they are so happy with the turn of events and will vigorously campaign for Lawyer Aidoo.
