Kenya/Eritrea: Eritreans Doubtul for Return Leg of Games Qualifier

Kenya’s Under-23 team is likely to get a walkover in their All Africa Games qualifier return leg match against Eritrea. The Red Sea bordering country has written to Football Kenya Limited expressing their uncertainty of travelling for the match.

FKL technical chairman Hussein Swaleh said the Eritrea Football Federation has written saying they have limited time to prepare for the clash.

“The ENFF noted that they were informed of the competition date late, leaving them with ‘no possibility’ to make the necessary preparations for flights in time to reach Kenya for the scheduled match.”

Swaleh said they will not allow any inconveniences from their opponents since their work is to arrange for the accommodation of the team by virtue of being the hosts. “We are not going to allow any kind of delays since CAF clearly gives out three days to teams for a match to be held and Kenya’s match against Eritrea was scheduled for either today, tomorrow or Sunday. “Consequently the ENFF Executive Committee in its extraordinary meeting has considered the problems resulting from the non-observance of competition regulations on the part of the Kenyans and the resultant situation decided that Eritrea shall not play the second leg match in Kenya,” said ENNF secretary general Ghidey Estifanos. Kenya lost the first leg 4-1.
