LACK of development at grassroots is to blame for the dwindling of soccer standards in the country. Gabriel Otiende of is contesting the Football Kenya chairmanship also attributed the poor standards to lack of competitive leagues in rural areas. “Promotion of football in rural areas will be my priority if I win the chairmanship,” he added.
He said a Fifa strategic plan to promote football in Kenya has not been implemented by the current officer holders. “We have a good and workable plan which is just waiting to be implemented,” he added. If elected he added, he will implement the strategic plan in the first year in office. Otiende, a former Kenya Premier League, and Sony Sugar FC chairman promised to inject accountability in the management of football in the country. He reiterated that he was still in the race for the chairmanship and that he was confident of winning the seat when elections are called sometime this year.”We are still waiting for the date then the actual campaign will begin” he told the Star.
