A witness said the crisis broke out at about 5:23 pm, when some members of the community resisted the turbaning of Salihu Karma as ‘Aguma of Tawari’ by the Etsu of Agyana, Alhaji Musa Hussaini.
He said some members of the Tawari House insisted on going ahead to organise a traditional party in anticipation of the turbaning ceremony, which was cancelled by the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa.
According to the witness, while the traditional party was going on at the village, some group of youths from Agyana descended on those celebrating with sticks and cutlasses, injuring four persons.
Our reporter gathered that two of the victims sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital.
“We learnt that the council chairman wrote to the Ona of Abaji, barring them from holding such a party in order to maintain peace but we are surprised that some youths from Agyana, went ahead to cause havoc,” a witness said.
He explained that the Etsu of Agyana, Alhaji Hussaini, had written thrice to the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, requesting for approval to turban a chief in the community, after invitation cards were printed and distributed but it was rejected.
The monarch in his response said the present village head of Gborgbodo was installed and turbaned by the present district head of Pandagi chiefdom, saying the purported Tawari community was not under Agyana chiefdom.
When contacted, Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sani Umar Paiko, confirmed the incident and said five persons were arrested.
He said the Ona of Abaji summoned both factions to meet with him today in order to resolve the matter.
