Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny insists manager Arsene Wenger is ‘best in the world’ despite another trophy-less season

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny insists that Arsene Wenger is “the best manager in the world” and is still the right man to bring silverware back for the Gunners.

After another season without a trophy there has been pressure placed on the Frenchman, and even some criticism from sections of the Gunners fans, but Szczesny admitted he can’t believe anyone is questioning his manager’s methods.

“It is ridiculous. If you ask any of the players, they will stand by the manager,” he said, according to the Daily Mail.

“He built this thing from nothing and I believe he is the best manager in the world.

“He puts his reputation on the line with young players.”

Arsenal’s season has hinged on individual mistakes which have cost the club any chance of securing a trophy – and Szczesny wasn’t immune, making his own in the League Cup final – but the keeper insisted the players were shouldering the responsibility as a group.

“We all take individual responsibility for our mistakes, and everyone has played their part in this season’s disappointments,” he continued.

“We just have to take it as a team. You can’t blame the boss. He stood by the team all season.”

Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League, and victory over Manchester United this weekend saw them close the gap on the league leaders to six points but the young Pole conceded there was frustration from the Gunners camp that they weren’t closer with just three games to go.

“There is a lot of frustration, to see other teams fighting for the title,” he added.

“We have really worked hard the whole year, have done our best every day in training and we have given 110 per cent in the games.

“It is frustrating not to be in the side that wins the championship, but we have shown we have the quality. It is just a matter of whether we can step up next season.

“We believe we are good enough, that we have a lot of years in front of us and a lot of trophies to win – so let’s be patient and show next year that we are good enough to win it.”
