Lusaka — Madagascar’s self-declared President Andry Rajoelina is in Zambia for consultations on how a southern Africa bloc can help resolve the political crisis in his island nation.
Zambia is the chair of the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) organ troika on politics, defence and security cooperation.
Mr Rajoelina, a radio DJ who took over power after toppling democratically elected president Marc Ravalomanana in a 2009 army-backed coup, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with Zambia’s Vice-President George Kunda.
“Mr Rajoelina is in the country to consult on how best Sadc can help find a solution to the political situation in Madagascar,” state-run Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) radio quoted Mr Kunda.
According to ZNBC, Mr Kunda said the outcome of the consultations with Mr Rajoelina would be tabled before a Sadc summit set for May 20 in Zambia.
