Egypt players celebrate after defeating Mali to finish third

Egypt finished third at the Africa Youth Championship on Sunday after defeating Mali 1-0 in the third-place play-off in Johannesburg.

Mohamed Aly’s 58th minute strike separated the two sides.

Mali were favourites for the game but a second-half revival by the north Africans helped them to seal the win.

The Young Eagles dominated the early exchanges with midfielder Coulibaly Abdoulaye creating opportunities for his strikers.

Mali were made to pay for their profligacy when Aly took advantage of a defensive slip-up to fire low into the far corner.

Nigeria will play Cameroon in the final later on Sunday.

All the four teams that reached the semi-final will represent Africa at the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia in July.
