Ferguson conceded that his side’s display in London on Sunday was “low key”

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted Chelsea are now right back in the title race after Manchester United lost 1-0 at Arsenal.

Though he conceded Arsenal had a good case for a penalty, Ferguson bemoaned the failure of referee Chris Foy to give his side a late one of their own.

“Obviously, it gives Chelsea a major chance now – and that’s what happens when you get these decisions,” he said.

Chelsea trail leaders United by three points with three games left, but will go top if they beat them next Sunday.

Foy missed a clear handball from Nemanja Vidic with Robin Van Persie poised to glance Theo Walcott’s cross at goal before half-time.

Aaron Ramsey slotted what proved to be the winner 11 minutes into the second period before the referee went on to wave away United’s late penalty appeals after substitute Michael Owen tumbled under a challenge from Arsenal full-back Gael Clichy.

“It’s too big a game not to get the decisions right,” Ferguson told Sky Sports News.

“It balances out in that respect. I think it was difficult to see that one Vidic’s handball but the one at the end, Clichy knew he had committed a foul.

“He put his hands up in horror.

“But in terms of ability – a game at Old Trafford against Chelsea, the supporters will be ready for it – and so will our players.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said his side will “keep fighting” for the Premier League title, despite them sitting six points off the leaders.
