Andre Ayew – desperate to clinch the title with Marseille

Andre Ayew is desperate to be part of a title-winning team as he looks to follow up his hat-trick against Nice when Ligue 1 leaders Marseille host struggling Auxerre.

The Ghanaian guided his team to a 4-2 win in midweek as Marseille leapfrogged Lille at the top of the table.

To add to Ayew’s hat-trick, his younger brother Jordan created the second goal before scoring the third himself.

Ayew is doubly determined to secure the title after missing out last season as he was on loan to Arles.

He said: “I wasn’t there last season to experience the moments the others enjoyed. I want to become a champion with the club whose youth system I came through.”

Deschamps said of the pair: “Dede (Andre) has a lot of quality and hunger. Jordan is younger but he showed his quality too, luckily because I don’t have many options in attack at the moment.

“First place is good but the most important thing is to have won as everything will be called into question again on Sunday.”

Loic Remy will miss out as he serves out his three-match ban.

Auxerre are hovering perilously close to the relegation zone following a season which has seen them draw on 17 occasions.

Coach Jean Fernandez, who spent two spells as coach of Marseille, has a full treatment room with captain Benoit Pedretti heading a lengthy list of absentees while Dennis Oliech is suspended.

Fernandez said: “If we had all of our players available then I would be convinced that we’ll stay up.

“There is a worry there and we still need two wins to make sure of our Ligue 1 future. We are not in the drop zone and, psychologically, that is important.”
