Winneba, (C/R) May 1, GNA – The Effutu Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected, Mr Alexander Afenyo Makin, a legal practitioner, as its Parliamentary Candidate in its primaries held in Winneba, on Saturday.
He polled 209 votes to beat his contestant, Mr Victor Yankson, also a legal practitioner, who had 34 votes out of the 243 votes. The election was conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Mr Markin, the assembly member for Kojo Bedu, contested the seat with Mr Samuel Owusu Adjei, the immediate past Member of Parliament for the area in 2007 and lost to him.
He thanked God and his supporters for his election, saying his “victory is a symbol of victory for the party’s success in the constituency in the 2012 general elections.”
He, therefore, urged members to bury their differences and rally behind him to recapture the Effutu Constituency Parliamentary seat for the NPP.
“It is only when we combine our forces and work hard that we can defeat the NDC,” he declared.
Mr Markin is also the immediate past Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly.

Efa is NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa
Breman Asikuma (C/R) May 1, GNA – Mr Anthony Efa, a-52-year old banker from Brakwa, was elected the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate for the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency in the primary held at Nkotunase on Saturday.
He polled 224 votes out of the total votes of 398 to beat two other contestants, Mr Godwill Ansah who obtained 96 votes and Mr Emmanuel Adjei Domson, immediate past chief executive for the area, who had 78 votes.
The election was conducted by officials from the District Electoral Commission, led by its head, Mr Dowouna Hammond.
Mr Efa in an interview with the GNA, promised to collaborate with the members of the party to vigorously campaign to obtain the Parliamentary seat.
He appealed to the members and sympathisers of the NPP to see themselves as one people and contribute their quota towards the victory of the party in 2012 general election, now that the primaries are over.

Musah Superior wins Tamale Central
Tamale, May 1, GNA – Mr Iddrissu Musah Superior, a UK-based NPP member used technology to wow delegates to elect him to represent the Tamale Central Constituency as their parliamentary candidate for the 2012 elections.
Before the elections started, Superior addressed the delegates through the internet outlining his vision for the constituency, which drew loud cheers from the crowd giving a clear indication that he had carried the day.
He, consequently, polled 278 votes out of 441 valid votes cast to beat, Iddrisu Sunday and Ismail Yahuza who got 124 and 39 votes respectively.
For the Tamale South constituency, Mr Abdallah Pegu Shamsudeen polled 287 votes to beat Yakubu Yussif who got 129 votes.
For the Tamale North Constituency, Mr Akilu Sayibu, another NPP stalwart, who recently returned from the UK, polled 220 of the votes cast to beat Sheik Yakubu Abdul-Karim and Rahinatu Yussif, who polled 108 and eight votes respectively.
