The incident occurred on the night of Thursday April 28, on the Konongo-Agogo Highway in the Ashanti Region. Mr. Appiah Kubi, who is also contesting the New Patriotic Party primaries in the Asante Akyim North Constituency, was returning from a meeting with some delegates when the attack occurred.
He however told Citi News the incident could not be connected to his handling of the controversial Amina case.
According to Mr. Appiah Kubi, he was driving from Hwidiem to Dwansa but had to apply his breaks immediately due to a roadblock that had been mounted.
He said in the process, some men holding torchlight came from the bush and asked him to stop but he ignored them and attempted to speed off.
“I attempted to escape from the attack but there was a gunshot that came through my windscreen but it did not cause any harm because I was driving alone. They fired a second one towards the driver’s side because I was bent on running away. So I lost control of the vehicle. Eventually they pursued me into the bush with some others who also found themselves at the scene. At the time the police came there, I had run away from the scene and gotten a vehicle that took me to the next village. But I don’t see any connection to the Amina case at all” he said.
