Ya-Naa’s wives cry to Mills for justice

The twenty-six widows of the Late Dagbon Overlord, Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II, have appealed to President Mills to deliver justice to them.

According to the women, the murderers of their spouse cannot go unpunished.

During a closed-door meeting at the Naa-Gbewa Palace where the King was killed, the women told President Mills that the pain of losing their husband will only be pacified when the killers are arrested.

One of the wives of the Late King, Katin Yakubu, who speaks for the 26 wives, told Citi News they trust President Mills to deliver justice to them.

“It’s very painful. Everyone knows what happened and we must all tell the truth. It’s only God who protected us when the killings were taking place. It took place during the day and not at night so no one can say he or she does not know what happened. We the wives of the Late King trust President Mills to deliver justice to us. It’s very painful and I cannot recount what happened because everyone knows that already” Katin Yakubu said.

President Mills, who is on a tour of the Northern Region, has warned the killers of the late King that no matter where they run to they would eventually be caught.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Yendi on Thursday April 28, President Mills renewed his pledge that his government will ensure that justice prevails.

The President made a similar pledge to the people of Dagbon on Wednesday, stating that his government will do everything possible to ensure that the murderers of the late Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II are brought to book even if it means seeking outside help.

All 15 Abudu suspects standing trial in the latest attempt to find the killers of the late Dagbon overlord were acquitted and discharged by a Fast Track High Court in Accra for lack of evidence.

The Government appealed against the ruling of the Accra High Court after some angry NDC supporters in Tamale, torched party offices in protest against the ruling.

The Andanis have expressed disappointment at the ruling mainly because the Mills administration made it a major campaign promise to arrest and prosecute the killers of the late King.

But President Mills insists the ruling will not discourage his government from pursuing and prosecuting the murderers of the late Dagbon King, and directed Attorney General to appeal, which he has done.
