Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock insists that his side will have to invest if they are to avoid the drop next year should they get promoted to the Premier League, but believes it is easier for him to manage in the top flight.

The Hoops are on the verge of gaining promotion and currently sit top of the Championship, but Warnock claimed his disciplinary record will improve in the top division.

“I have found the Premier League easier to handle than lower down, because you have so many cameras on every game and you can look at every controversial decision within three minutes at the end of the game and be clued up before you are out there facing the press,” he told Yahoo.

“I found it easier in the Premier League not to get into trouble.”

It is expected that the QPR owners will back Warnock with a huge budget next season, but the former Crystal Palace boss refused to look beyond the end of the current campaign.

“We are still not there yet. It’s been a long haul but it has been a massive turnaround really considering that I have only been here for just over a year,” he added.

“If you look at our team that played last week, the team was worth under £3 million which is not a lot at all. Some clubs in the Championship have spent that on one player.

“I think it is a bit of a myth about my owners. At the moment we are very thrifty and look after the money. Obviously they understand the situation at the next level but we will cross that bridge when we come to it. I am sure they will support whatever it needs to sustain QPR in the Premier League, hopefully when that happens,” he added.

If QPR do gain promotion next season their story will not be to disimilar to that of Blackpool who suprised everyone to achieve promotion last year. But Warnock insists his club have to invest and that a squad of 25 players is a must in the Premier League.

“I think every club knows that you need to invest now. You can’t go up now and stick with what you’ve got. Blackpool are the exception although they are in the bottom three as we talk. You have to invest in a lot of players to add to the squad,” he added.

“You need your 25 players.

“One thing I did learn is that the Premier League is a very cruel league. In the space of a week you could lose three centre halves and your squad might not be big enough to cope as you are not used to it.”
