Okofo Egyeifa said he expected Rawlings to prop up President Mills since he (Rawlings) paved the way for him to lead the party when his term of office ended in 2000.
Reacting to recent pronouncements by the former President during an interaction with the Graphic, he described Rawlings’s role in the Mills campaign as an ‘ebusua panyin’ who installs a chief and guides him during his reign.
He said it was Rawlings who convinced most of the chiefs in the Central region to vote for President Mills in 2008 and therefore does not fathom why the same Rawlings would now turn against the person he had groomed.
He admonished Rawlings to advise his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, to rescind her decision and throw her full weight behind President Mills to deliver on the ‘Better Ghana’ he promised during the 2008 elections.
Okofo Egyeifa said what the former President and his wife were doing had the potential to endanger the NDC’s chances in the 2012 elections and urged them to stop such action for the cohesion and unity in the party to ensure a resounding victory for the party.
Commenting on development projects in the area, a Vice Chief Farmer of AEE, Elder J.K. Donkor, commended President Mills and the District Chief Executive, Mr Light Koomson, for the rehabilitation of roads in the area.
Elder Donkor said since the presentation of road equipment by the government to the assembly, most communities had seen improvement in the road network and facilitated the movement of people and foodstuff in the hinterland.
For his part, Mr Light Koomson said the Essiam-Fawomanye-Fosu road would soon be rehabilitated while the Essiam township roads have been awarded on contract.
