Barcelona’s Carles Puyol and Andres Iniesta to miss trip to Real Socieded

Carles Puyol has been ruled out of Barcelona’s visit to Real Sociedad on Saturday, along with midfielder Andres Iniesta.

The Barcelona captain, who has struggled with injuries this term, will join Iniesta, Maxwell, Adriano, Bojan Krkic and Eric Abidal on the sidelines.

Puyol’s absence means that Javier Mascherano is likely to continue in defence, as he did during the midweek Champions League semi-final tie against Real Madrid.

As a result of Barcelona’s depleted squad, youth team player Gerald Deulofeu has been called up to the first team squad for this weekend’s match.

The club’s website has confirmed the following squad to travel for the match: Valdes, Pinto; Alves, Montoya, Pique, Milito, Fontas; Xavi, Keita, Busquets, Affelay, Thiago, Sergi Roberto; Messi, Villa, Pedro, Deulofeu, Jeffren.
