20-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Alleged Murder

One Sirra Jammeh, a 20-year-old woman has been arrested for the alleged murder of one Salieu Jobe, a 17-year-old boy.

Narrating the incident to this reporter on Tuesday at Manjikunda Police Station, ASP Yerrow Mballow, the Police public relations officer, said the incident happened on 24th April 2011 between 19:00-20:00 hours, when the accused, a resident of Kotu Quarry had a problem with the deceased’s mother.

According to the Police PRO, on Monday 25th April 2011, the deceased, Salieu Jobe, together with a 14-year-old boy (Name withheld) went to the accused person’s compound to ask her why she had the problem with their mother.

Further narrating the unfortunate incident, the Police PRO said: “During which they fought and the 14-year-old boy hit the accused with a stick, the accused then ran to one of the rooms in her compound and picked a knife and the deceased also took a cutlass from one of the boys with whom the deceased was going to fetch palm leaves for their masquerade locally known as hunting.”

ASP Mballow explained that the deceased went into the compound of the accused and wanted to cut her with the cutlass; unfortunately the accused stabbed the deceased on his chest with a knife. “He felt down and was rushed to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul were on arrival he was pronounced dead,” ASP Mballow added.

He disclosed that the 14-year-old boy was also arrested and is currently helping police officers in their investigation. The accused will be charged for murder contrary Section 187 of the Criminal Code Cap 10.0 Revise Laws of The Gambia, while the 14-year-old boy will be charged for criminal trespass contrary to Section 285, and assault.
