Wolves boss Mick McCarthy hopeful Steven Fletcher will be fit for crucial clash with Birmingham City

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is hopeful that striker Steven Fletcher will shake off his knee injury and be fit in time for his side’s match with Birmingham City on Sunday.

The Scot limped out of the 3-0 defeat to Stoke on Tuesday, and with Kevin Doyle already out and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake struggling, McCarthy looked to be short of options in attack.

But it seems Fletcher should make a quick recovery, with McCarthy telling the club’s official website: “The injury to Fletch hopefully doesn’t seem to be as bad as it could have been.

“He’ll continue to be monitored but has a good chance of being available for Sunday.”

McCarthy was left hugely disappointed with his side’s performance against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium, which not only saw them fail to pick up points, but harmed their goal difference.

He continued: “I cannot get too excited about Birmingham because I am still sad and disappointed with how we played against Stoke.

“But rest assured we will be a lot better by the time the Birmingham game comes around. I do not think the players have lost their belief.”
