PGA TOUR tournament director Steve Carman said the course set-up for one of the weekend rounds at TPC Louisiana will likely include a drivable par-4 hole.
Carman said either the 372-yard eighth hole or the 355-yard 16th hole is expected to become a drivable hole by moving up the tee.
“It all depends on the wind direction and the wind velocity,” Carman said.
In addition, the tee box on the 585-yard par-5 18th hole will likely be moved up in one of the final two rounds in order to make it reachable in two.
COURSE: Robb Arnold, the director of golf course maintenance operations, said players will likely appreciate the changes made last summer to expand the landing areas at holes 1, 2, 11 and 12.
Arnold said that sod was added to the other side of the cart path, replacing the woodsy area that severely penalized poor tee shots.
“This gives them a little more leeway to spray it around and not end up in the mulch,” Arnold said.
In terms of the rough, TPC Louisiana will not have an especially high rough, just 1-1/2 to 2 inches.
“A lot of people think we grow real high rough for these TOUR players,” Arnold said. “But this course plays well with a lower height of cut on the rough.”
WEATHER: PGA TOUR meteorologist Wade Stettner expects the weather to be ideal for most of the week, although there could be a slight chance of precipitation on Sunday.
“We’re really not looking at much in the way of precipitation chances,” Stettner said. “We’ll have to keep an eye out for Sunday, but right now, Thursday, Friday and Saturday look dry.”
Humidity will be low the first two days and increase on the weekend.
“We’re really not seeing a whole lot of impactful weather this week,” Stettner said.
