A National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA) inspector has urged employers to submit returns on time to avoid inconveniencing members.
Victor Mulenga said during a NAPSA seminar for employer education in Ndola yesterday that delays in submitting returns affected individual members when they lodge in applications for payment of their dues.
He said employers should also ensure that they gave accurate information concerning the employees they were submitting returns for.
Mr Mulenga said incomplete mandatory documents had in the past resulted into accumulation of bad returns on individual accounts.
He urged employers to comply with the NAPSA Act as non-submission, submitting incorrect information, non-payment of returns and blocking an inspector were serious offences under the law.
Another inspector, Benele Hachungula said the authority had been processing returns electronically since February 10 last year and employers were required to submit electronic returns.
Ms Hachungula said the electronic system was a faster and more efficient method of updating an account and compiling returns because members’ accounts would be updated faster.
She said the new system made it easy to spot mistakes in employer returns and that the employers were able to access their records from previous contribution periods.
More than 20 privately-owned companies were represented at the seminar held at Zanji Lodge.
