Ministry of Education ‘Sports Week’ to Be Held in Swakop

All 13 regions’ directorates, and head office, of the Ministry of Education, as well as the National Institute of Education Development, will gather in Swakopmund from April 29 till May 4 for a ‘sports week’.

This is the first time the annual event is being held at Swakopmund, and about 1 000 participants in four sports codes are expected to participate. The codes include soccer, netball, volleyball and tug of war. In addition, a ‘mini olympics’ and masters soccer game will be held.

The purpose of the whole event was initiated for staff members at head office and regional offices to meet on a social platform; to motivate and learn from one another about various cultures, traditions and working environments in terms of the democratic set up, according to Charles Neidel who is one of the organisers.

“Through this event, staff members will foster team-building, positive interaction and better working relationships,” he said.

The organising committee is also anticipating the participation of the Minister and Permanent Secretary in the masters game.

The main venue will be at the Tamariskia Sport Field for soccer, netball and tug of war, and the volleyball will be held at Vineta’s old skateboard ramp-site near the beach.

There will also be a beauty pageant, during which every culture should portray a ‘Mr. And Mrs. Education’.

“Seeing it will be a long weekend, no one will have an excuse not to attend the event and support their favourite teams,” Neidel encouraged.
