Confirmation of the talks came hours after Dr Besigye and three co-accused were released on bail by Magistrate Justine Atukwasa after chaotic scenes at Nakasongola Court.

Kampala — Uganda Kobs could have easily sealed their place in the next round of the All Africa Games qualifier had it not been for some wasteful finishing against Tanzania in the first leg at Namboole a fortnight ago.

Carrying a narrow 2-1 lead, the U-23 team departs today with coach George Ssemwogerere optimistic about burying the frustration. “I think it was the weight of expectation that proved too much but that won’t happen again,” Ssemwogerere said after yesterday’s training session at Kavumba Recreation Centre in Wakiso. Ssemwogerere, a former Cranes and Express captain, noted that emphasis will be on the forwards. “Tanzania didn’t trouble us that much. We just didn’t take our chances.”

Uganda’s last trip to Dar-es Salaam yielded no fruits when the senior Cranes side failed to retain the 2009 Tusker Cecafa Cup, losing to Tanzania in the semifinal. They managed to beat the same team 3-2 in a friendly the same year. “The atmosphere will be tense and it won’t be easy.”
