Gambia: Sarr Blames Awful Show to Poor Prep

Lamin Sarr has put the blame on his side’s poor performance to poor preparation.

Gambia endured a miserable campaign in the AYC in South Africa, Johannesburg finishing off bottom of the table in Group B.

Managing only a single point out of nine, the country’s worst performance under this age bracket, Coach for the U-20 Lamin Sarr blamed their dismal show to the poor preparation they had prior to the tournament.

Gambia were humbled by opponents, forcing them to an early exit, but Sarr was critical of the FA’s unfair treatment of him and feels his players are not to blame, but poor preparation and officiating.

“I don’t blame my players for the loss. We had a poor preparation for this competition. This is the poorest preparation a Gambian team has had for an international competition,” Sarr said

“Nigeria played very well but I cannot say if they will win the competition. The other teams are also good for the title.” He added.

Prior to the game, The Nigeria Football Association motivated Flying Eagles, before their must-win Group B match against Gambia at the African Youth Championship in South Africa.

At an afternoon meeting with a couple of NFF Executive Committee members and Management Staff in Johannesburg on Friday, NFF President Aminu Maigari approved that the Nigerian players should be paid the sum of $2,000 each if they are able to fly above the Gambians on Sunday – a feat that would automatically earn them a semi final ticket in the competition and a berth at the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals in Colombia later this year.
