Luanda — Angola and Nigeria have not yet achieved the much desired levels of cooperation, despite the existence of excellent political ties, said the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto.
Manuel Augusto, was addressing a delegation of Nigerian officers visiting Angola since Sunday.
The Foreign Affairs State Secretary said that the non implementation of specific and feasible actions under bilateral legal instruments, apart from the financial possibility, is the main cause of lethargy in cooperation between the two States.
Meanwhile, Manuel Augusto called for the need for an analysis, by the two countries, of common interests with a view to define a few, but good projects strengthening the political relation.
He stressed that the economic and human potential of the two countries can lead the cooperation to other levels and, however, meet the desire of the two peoples.
The State Secretary urged for reflection on the ways and means to materialize this desire which require necessarily revive the contacts in various levels.
He argued that in the ambit of south-south relations the two countries enjoy excellent harmony in the posts they hold, both at the level of the African Union, the Non Aligned Movement and United Nations.
The official also spoke of the role played by the two countries in the context of Commission of Golf of Guinea which results in development of major efforts for materialization of the organisation’s goal.
Manuel Augusto also stressed the two countries’ crucial role in the process of stabilisation of Guinea Bissau.
The Sate secretary said that in April 1979, the two countries signed an accord of Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in support various sector agreements signed between the two countries.
On the commitments assumed in the fields of common interest; culture, tourism, education, social communication, health, banking, finance, promotion and reciprocal protection of the investments, the official said that no implementation level has been achieved so far.
On the other hand, he assured that the situation will be reversed in order to meet the expectations created by the two States.
