Brikama Central RCL Training Camp Underway

A weeklong training camp organised by the Brikama Red Cross Link is currently underway at Yaldind Lower Basic School in Farato Village in Kombo South District, West Coast Region.

The camp, which started on Saturday 23rd April 2011, is being attended by 100 Red Cross volunteers. It is geared towards equipping the volunteers with the basic First Aid skills as well as enlighten them to become aware of the rights of children.

Speaking at the opening of the camp, Ansuman Ceesay, project coordinator of Yalding Lower & Nursery School, expressed delight that his school is given the opportunity to host the event for the first time. He hinted that his school is interested in creating a Red Cross link.

He also seized the opportunity to commend the volunteers for leaving behind valuable engagements to attend the camp; and further advised them to take the camp seriously so that the objectives of the training can be met.

For his part, Matarr Saidykhan, the chairperson of Brikama Central Link, who doubles as the camp director, gave a detailed history of his link and also urged his colleagues to take the camp seriously so that at the end of the day, they can be equipped with the required knowledge to enhance their operations as Red Cross volunteers.

Sarjo A.F. Jallow, a participant at the training camp, who is also the camp coordinator thanked the volunteers for honouring their invitation to attend the camp. He said he hopes that the camp would be interactive and educative.
