Eleven-piece English folk troupe Bellowhead have been named best group in the annual awards handed out by the Songlines world music magazine.
Bellowhead beat bands from China, Finland and Portugal to the prize, awarded for their third album Hedonism.
The accolade follows the BBC Radio 2 Folk awards for best group and best live band which they won in February.
“Their live shows have been sensational,” Songlines publisher Simon Broughton told the Reuters news agency.
Nigerian singer Femi Kuti, the son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, was named best artist by Songlines.
AfroCubism, a group made up of Cuban and Malian musicians, were named best cross-cultural collaboration.
Indian singer and guitarist Raghu Dixit, who mixes traditional and western styles, won best newcomer.
Nominees for the Songlines awards, now in their third year, were chosen by readers. The magazine’s editorial team selected the winners.
