Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing urges full concentration to keep pressure on Tottenham in chase for Europa League qualification

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has insisted that the club are concentrating on their own form as they look to beat Tottenham to fifth place and Europa League qualification.

The club’s recent fine form of eight wins in their last 12 games has seen them move back into contention for a Europa League place, but Spearing feels that they can’t be too concerned with results other than their own.

“We can’t look too far ahead. We can’t keep worrying about other people,” he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

“We’ve Newcastle at home on Saturday and we need to get three points there and keep the pressure on Tottenham.”

Spearing has been excelling in the Liverpool midfield in the absence of captain Steven Gerrard and he believes the club’s upturn in form is down to a determination to get the result.

“Right from the first whistle we seem to be gelling together and working hard for one another and as soon as we lose the ball we’re fighting to get it back again.

“It’s the desire of the side now that we want to keep going until the end of the season and end it on a high.

“The club seems to be flying at the moment and we’re keeping it going and it’s showing in the performances.

“You can see the team is all together and we’re working hard for one another and that’s the main thing.”
