Kofi Adams Laments: Political Parties Worship Their Founders; But NDC Is Rather Maltreating JJ

Special aide to Ex-President Rawlings, Mr. Kofi Adams has express disquiet at how some stalwarts in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are constantly ruining insults and disrespecting the founder of the party, former President Jerry John Rawlings.

According to him, there are many political parties whose founding fathers are not alive, yet they adored and worshipped. He disclosed that quite a number of people are disappointed at the way the NDC is behaving towards Jerry John Rawlings, upon whose shoulders the party was founded.

Commenting on a Press statement issued by a group calling itself “Sons and Daughters of Atta Mills” who raised concerns about the treatment being meted out to the former Presiden, and the fact that he has been unfairly ignored by the Mills’ administration, Kofi Adams said he shares in the concerns raised by the group.

According to him, there have been cases where government appointees have denigrated the former president, with some even having the gall to tell him him to shut up.

“A lot more people in the NDC are disappointed in the way we have treated the founding father of our party, upon whose shoulders the party was founded and I share in their worries and concerns…Rawlings has been unfairly treated not just by government but even statements and remarks by the party leadership and some individuals (show the extent to which he has been disregarded)…there are many parties whose founding fathers are not alive, they are dead and gone but they still worship them and you hardly hear anything negative said against them, they don’t even believe that they erred and they feel that people should project the good things they did,” he said on PeaceFM’s “Kokrokoo” programme.

He dismissed accusations that the former president has developed the penchant for washing the party’s dirty linen in public, stressing that Mr. Rawlings often expresses misgivings only when he meets with party members and executives.

He urged the current administration to as a matter of urgency take into consideration the concerns raised by some party members regarding the unfair treatment being meted out to the Rawlingses.

“It is the responsibility of government to listen to all concerns raised by various groups no matter how small or big the groups are. Democracy is doing what the majority want and creating space for the minority interest so the concerns of the group cannot be ignored,” he noted.
