Luweero — A day-old baby girl has been recovered by residents of Wobulenzi town after it was allegedly dumped in a roadside trench near Delta fueling station by a yet to be identified mother. The Child and Family Protection Unit officer at Luweero Central Police Station, Ms Frances Nyamutale, said the baby’s survival was a miracle. She said dangers ranging from wild dogs, the night cold and possible drowning in case it rained at night lurked in its way.

“Luck is with some of these kids who are abandoned by their parents. The wild dogs could have feasted on this baby, the night rains could have drowned the baby since it was in a trench,” she said. Luweero District Probation Officer, Ms Joyce Namigadde, told Daily Monitor that the day-old baby girl had been examined at Kasana Health Centre IV and found to be healthy.
The District Probation Office has handed the baby to Kampala Children’s Centre, who applied to take care of her. The number of children abandoned by parents has increased in Luweero District, according to Ms Namigadde.
