The President made the commendation after he paid an unannounced visit to the Authority on Tuesday April 26, to interact with the management.
Months earlier, President Mills expressed intense anger against the Authority for the amount of rot and corruption exposed by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper.
The report, compiled undercover by investigators under the direction of the ace investigator, exposed massive amounts of rot and corruption by officers of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority as well as officials of GHAPOHA and other security agencies.
As a result of the exposure, 97 officers of Customs were transferred while a similar exercise was undertaken in the other security agencies. Addressing the management of the Ghana Ports Authority on Tuesday, President Mills said there are indications that the authority has corrected many of its wrong practices in the interest of the nation.
He urged the management of the authority to continue with their hard work for the sake of the nation. “The right hand washes the left and the left hand washes the right, whatever we do, once we are sure that we are collecting the maximum that we can from Customs and once there is this increase then it probably means that there were things that you were doing which had stopped or you were not doing and now you have began to do or a combination of these two.
“Whatever it is let’s make sure that we maximize our revenue and customers will all be smiling”.
