He said Dr Mahama’s days of being the PNC flag bearer were over, for which reason he should drop his presidential ambition and rally behind him (Hassan Ayariga) to achieve the dream of winning the highest office in the land for the party.
Mr Ayariga, the elder brother of Deputy Education Minister Mahama Ayariga, was addressing PNC northern regional executives, delegates and party supporters in Tamale as part of his two-day campaign tour of the Northern Region.
To him, the Ghanaian electorate were fed up with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) style of governance and believed the PNC would be the best alternative in 2012 under his leadership.
Mr Ayariga debunked the notion that the PNC was for the elderly and promised to make it attractive to the youth.
On the issue of the PNC and the CPP merging to contest the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, he expressed his willingness to accept such a move as long as it is in the collective interest of all party members.
Mr Ayariga mentioned youth employment, agricultural transformation, Free Compulsory Basic Education and women’s empowerment as some of the thematic areas his PNC administration would focus on.
The PNC northern regional Secretary, Amuda Kassim, hinted that the party would take advantage of what he described as the deepening cracks in the ruling NDC to win the 2012 general elections.
Amuda Kassim declared his intention to contest the Tamale Central Constituency seat on the ticket of the PNC in 2012 and expressed optimism that he would unseat the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini.
He cautioned politicians against dividing Dagombas on Abudu and Andani lines and challenged them to adopt practices that would improve the living conditions of the people of Dagbon.
