‘We need to play without him’ – Avram Grant bemoans loss of West Ham star Scott Parker

West Ham manager Avram Grant is desperate to have influential Scott Parker back in action after The Football Writer’s Player of the Year nurses an Achilles injury which has forced him to miss the Hammer’s last two fixtures.

The London club are rock bottom of the Premier League with only four games left to play to try and climb the table to Premier League safety, however, Grant is under no illusion the Hammer’s task will be made a lot harder without their star midfielder.

The former Chelsea and Portsmouth manager said: “I want him to play. It depends on his condition.

“He’s not feeling so good and I hope that he will be available for us soon.

“The good news is maximum two weeks he will be fit, maybe next week also.”

“Every player wants to play with a good player – he’s the player of the year,” he added.

“But he didn’t play and we need to play also without him.”

West Ham’s Premier League run-in sees them face a tricky away match at Manchester City this weekend, before crunch ties with fellow relegation-threatened clubs Blackburn, Wigan and Sunderland.
