Tottenham skipper Michael Dawson bemoans conceding ‘wonder goal’ in race for Champions League

Tottenham‘s Michael Dawson was disappointed to concede a wonder goal late on to consign them to a 2-2 draw with West Brom on Saturday.

Spurs looked set to continue their pursuit of fourth position in the Premier League after taking the lead late on in the game before Simon Cox produced a wonder strike to seal a point for Roy Hodgson’s resurgent West Brom.

Dawson admitted that conceding the goal when they did, took their momentum away from them and found it difficult to try and find a winner.

He told the club’s official website: “To concede that wonder goal after coming back from going 1-0 down so early and losing Benoit really took it out of us.

“We looked good to go on and win when we went 2-1 up.

“We were passing the ball around well at that stage but it only takes a second to score a goal and that proved it.

“It was so disappointing but we have to pick ourselves up and go again.”

The loss of two points now means that Spurs lie one point behind Manchester City in fourth place having played a game more than their rivals, making their push for Champions League qualification look increasingly unlikely.
