Ondjiva — The head of reproductive health in the province of Cunene, Francelina Matias, Saturday called on pregnant women to carry out consultations in obstetrics and prenatal care in order to contribute to the reduction of maternal and child deaths.
According to the official, lack of prenatal care can lead to various complications, with emphasis on postpartum haemorrhage and prolonged labour are the main causes of maternal deaths.
He also stressed that the consultations are important, because it helps pregnant women learn about healthy eating, preparing for breastfeeding, and abstention from tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
