Ondo State government on Sunday said it had started the process of rescuing about 400 of its indigenes stranded in some parts of northern Nigeria, which was engulfed in violence following the declaration of the presidential election results.

The evacuation of the stranded indigenes, it was learnt, was being coordinated by the Emergency Management Agency in the Deputy Governor’s office.

The team would evacuate about 400 indigenes living across the Northern states.

The first batch of the people from Kaduna State had arrived Akure, the state capital for the onward transfer to their respective local governments and hometowns.

The Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s office, Mr Kehinde Temikotan, told journalists in Akure on Sunday that the EMA would evacuate about 276 National Youth Service Corps members, in the troubled area.

Temikotan said the government would not fold its arms and watch while indigenes of the state were killed over religious or political issues.

According to him, the government had directed that all indigenes of the state living in Kano, Katsina, Kaduna and Borno states to converge on Bauchi so that it would be easy for them to be evacuated.

Some of those being evacuated, he said, would be taken to Abuja, where some of them had their relatives; while others would be moved to Akure, the state capital.

The chairman of EMA in the state, Mr. Abiodun Akinseloyin, also stated that NYSC members and other indigenes of the state willing to leave the troubled zone, would be evacuated.

Akinseloyin, who is the leader of the delegation, said the EMA would target members of the state origin serving their fatherland in Bauchile and other neighbouring states.
