Mbotela Kamaliza shocked Bedjoes “A” 2-0 during the launch of the 2011 George Aladwa football tournament at the Makongeni grounds yesterday. Ezekiel Otieno scored both goals for Mbotela under a scorching sun to book their hopes of advancing to the next stage of the four day tournament. Kennedy Otieno also scored a brace for Makongeni Sportiff to see off Hakati 2-0 at the same venue.
Bedjoes got a relief when their “B” team beat Makongeni United 1-0 through Amos Lavatswa’s goal. Twenty eight teams are taking part in the ninth edition of the tournament sponsored by Nairobi mayor George Aladwa and which is usually held during the Easter holidays. “I think this is the best way to help our youth express their football talent,” said Aladwa. “We have raised our sponsorship for the tournament as we hope to spend Sh500, 000 in the four days that we will be here,” he added.
