A COMPUTER laboratory set up with funding from the Bank of Namibia (BoN) was inaugurated at the PK De Villiers High School at Keetmanshoop on Monday.
The BoN donated N$500 000 for the establishment of the centre.
Speaking at the inauguration, BoN governor Ipumbu Shiimi said the investment reflects a response to the education minister’s call for stakeholders to get involved in addressing the plight of the Namibian child.
“We have found the ministry’s strategy for integrating ICT across the entire education sector as critical and we share and support its main goals to equip, educate and empower learners, teachers and communities in bridging the digital divide and meeting the goals of Vision 2030,” said Shiimi.
In his message, Karas governor Clinton Swartbooi advised pupils to use the computers productively.
The acting deputy director of education in the Karas Region, Cecilia Mostert, welcomed BoN’s donation, saying the gesture demonstrates that the reserve bank wants to invest in human capital.
“Frequently people only criticise the education sector. Invest in education so that we can make an improvement,” Mostert urged.
