Jos – Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau has directed security agencies to provide maximum security for all NYSC members involved in Tuesday’s elections in all parts of the state.
Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Mr. James Mannok, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Monday in Jos.
He said the directive was part of measures taken by government to ensure the security and safety of the NYSC members.
NAN reports that the move was in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s directive that all state governors should provide security to all corps members.
This was in the wake of deaths recorded and injuries sustained by many corps members in the aftermath of the presidential election on April 16.
Jang warned that the law’s full weight would be brought to bear on any individual or group planning to disrupt the peace in the state or interfere with the electoral process.
“Security agents have been briefed and adequately empowered within the ambits of the laws and rules of engagement to deal with trouble-makers before, during and after the elections.
“Our teeming electorate should not be misled and deceived, but they should come out on Tuesday to exercise their franchise.
“All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of lives and property of all citizens in the nooks and crannies of Plateau State,” he said in the statement.
