Ex-Finance Minister, group condemn post poll violence

KADUNA – FORMER Minister of Finance and Senator elect, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Mrs. Esther Usman Nenadi, and the Middle Peace Assembly, MPA, yesterday denounced the violence in the North that followed the declaration of President Jonathan Goodluck of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the Presidential election.

Mrs. Nenadi in a statement said: “I condemn in strong terms this unfortunate situation that has befell us, leading to a wanton destruction of lives, property and a denigration of the sanctity of life as given by Almighty God. It is also condemnable in the sense that none of our religions teaches violence and affliction on mankind with tragedy leading to unjustifiable pains and agony.”

“As a senator-elect representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District, a district that also had a fair share of the post election crises, I wish to call on the people of Kaduna South senatorial district and indeed the people of Kaduna State to eschew violence, avoid reprisal attacks and other acts that could further lead to the breakdown of law and order.”

Similarly, MPA, at a briefing, in Kaduna Monday, said “the North has the least human development index in Nigeria, in some areas, among the least in the world. Yet, even with the little it has,  Northerners kept marching backwards each time they fight among themselves. Billions of Naira of property, investment  and infrastructure are lost.

“Investors, both local and international, are further scared from coming here with the much needed money to create jobs, goods and services.”
