Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti believes the upcoming fortnight will be the most vital period of the entire season as the Premier League title race enters its final month.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have emerged as the main challengers to champions-elect Manchester United having seen Arsenal lose at Bolton on Sunday and will face Sir Alex Ferguson’s side at Old Trafford on May 8.

The current Premier League champions will be hoping that rivals Arsenal can do them a favour this weekend, however, as United travel to the Emirates looking comfortable with a six-point lead at the top of the table while Chelsea face the Gunners’ north London rivals Tottenham a day earlier. 

Speaking following his side’s 3-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday, Ancelotti said: “If we can beat Tottenham, we can put more pressure on Manchester United in the game against Arsenal.

“We have two important games. The title will be decided in 14 days.”

Ancelotti has also refused to rule out the possibility of the title race going down to goal difference, something that has not happened since Arsenal pipped Liverpool to the post in 1989.

He said: “It could happen, so it was important for us to score three goals. We didn’t deserve to score three goals today, but it was good.”

The former AC Milan boss has also stated that his side cannot afford to drop a single point from now until the end of the season, with games against Everton and Newcastle concluding their campaign.

“It will be difficult to win all four, we have to play very tough games,” he said. “We know that if we don’t win one game, we can lose our ambition and so there is pressure.”
