Atta Akyea appeals to the electorate to bring NPP back to power

April 25, 2011 Accra , April 25, GNA - All traditional rulers should swear allegiance to the constitution and accept in a written document the monopoly of the means of violence by the state as supreme and unquestionable, a Ghanaian physicist has suggested. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Sunday, Dr Michael Gbordzoe, who has retired from the Institute of Physics , University of Würzburg , Germany , said the government should grant no official recognition to any traditional leader without such a declaration. In proposals submitted to the Constitution Review Commission, he said the "statutory streamlining" of chieftaincy was essential to enable the country to deal effectively with the perennial chieftaincy disputes which had militated against the developmental process and threatened the peace in the society

Kyebi, April 25, GNA – Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, has called on Ghanaians to reject the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in next year’s general elections and bring back the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to continue the good policies and programmes it started.

He said the eight-year rule of the NPP under former President John Agyekum Kufour witnessed massive economic transformation and development.

Mr Atta Akyea said since NPP lost power and handed over to the NDC under the leadership of President John Atta Mills, the country was witnessing poverty and bad economic policies.

He said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo was ready to continue from where President Kufour left to take the country to the economic promise land.

He has therefore cautioned Ghanaians not to allow themselves to be deceived by the NDC propaganda machine any more and reject them come 2012.

Mr Atta Akyea, who was interacting with party faithful and polling station executives during his tour of the constituency over the weekend, accused the NDC for winning the 2008 elections through propaganda hence their inability to perform.

He said President Mills had failed to honour all his campaign promises hence the continuous criticism from former President Rawlings who is the founder of the NDC.

Mr Atta Akyea was of the view that the inability of the President to perform to the satisfaction of his own supporters had brought about party foot soldiers chasing government officials from their offices.

Mr Atta Akyea said the decision by the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to contest against the President was an indication of a vote of no confidence in the President.

He said the NPP would put a lot of economic policies in place to ensure that the country was alleviated from the present high rate of poverty.

Mr Atta Akyea said although he would surely win the parliamentary seat come 2012, the people should vote massively for Nana Akuafo Addo to become President for him to be able to provide them with more development.
