72-Year-Old Man Advises Konadu Rawlings

A member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region, Mr. Godwin Kwame Dzatah has noted that the presidential ambition of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, though good on paper, will not serve the best interest of the party.

To him, Nana Konadu should consider the 2016 elections, but certainly not now, when President Mills is performing well. Her ambition is too premature, she is tearing the party part, let us all rally behind Professor Mills because we don’t want the party to be divided into two,” he stressed and called on Mr. Jerry Rawlings to counsel his wife to discard her ambition.

Mr. Dzatah said Nana Konadu must first think of becoming a lawmaker to build very strong political foundation before thinking about the presidency. According to him, the reaction from the various regions to the ambition of Nana Konadu, should tell her that the ground was not fertile.

In an exclusive interview with the Chronicle newspaper in Takoradi, the 72-year-old politician acknowledged the valuable contribution of the former first family to the democratic development and growth of the NDC and Ghana as a country, but contesting the sitting President is not the best decision.

Sharing his opinion about splinter groups in the party, the NDC member said it was not healthy and that it could cause the doom of the party if not managed properly. He therefore urged Friends of Atta Mills and Friends of Nana Konadu among others to consider uniting towards a common goal.
