At least 15 people have been killed and 20 others injured in clashes between Somali government forces alongside African union troops (AMISOM) and Al-Shabaab militants on Thursday.
The fighting broke out after government forces backed by AMSIOM troops attacked Al-Shabaab extremist’s bases in Bondere district in Somali capital Mogadishu.
Witnesses confirmed that they saw the dead bodies of 10 people including seven of the warring sides and dozens wounded in the fighting.
Somali government troop’s deputy commander, General Abdikarin Dega-badan told the media that the government forces seized bases from Al-Shabaab militants in Bondere district.
Meanwhile, five people have been killed and 10 others injured in fighting between government soldiers and Al-Shabaab radical militias erupted at the outskirts of Eelwaq district in Gedo region.
Al-Shabaab militants control much of south and central Somalia regions, including large parts of the war-ravaged capital. The militias are fighting with the weak Somali government and African Union troops to take over the control of the country.
Somalia is in chaos since 1991, when warlords overthrown Siad Barre’s administration.
