Chiefs fans are disappointed over their defeat to Baroka

Kaizer Chiefs suffered one of the biggest shocks in the history of the South Africa FA Cup when they were knocked out by third tier side Baroka FC.

The third division side scored a stunning last-minute winner to secure a 2-1 victory against the giants to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The victory sends them through to the last four along with second-division Black Leopards, who knocked out Vasco da Gama on Saturday with a 3-2 win.

The Chiefs, ranked third in the Premiership table, opened the scoring in the 36th minute through Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona.

Midfielder Sam Ndlovu evened out the score in the 44th minute and Baroka kept the Chiefs at bay through most of the second half.

They finally grabbed the decisive goal in the 90th minute thanks to a strike by leading scorer Thobani Mncwango.

Their victory was aided by a series of wasted opportunities for the Chiefs, who repeatedly set up golden opportunities that fellow narrowly short.

Meanwhile in Durban, the Mpumalanga Black Aces defied their bottom spot in the Premiership to topple 11th-ranked AmaZulu 2-1.

Black Aces defender Warren Bishop claimed the first goal in the eighth minute but AmaZulu quickly levelled the game with a reply by Ayanda Dlamini in the 17th minute.

Aces were leading at half-time after forward Marawaan Bantam scored in the 36th minute.

Striker Manqoba Ngwenya ended AmaZula’s hopes, taking the third goal in the 67th minute.

Just minutes before, Ngwenya was the target of a reckless tackle by AmaZulu defender Siyabonga Vilane, whose red card brought his side down to 10 men.

Despite the numbers, Bongani Mbele claimed a second goal for AmaZulu in the 84th minute but his side couldn’t turn that into enough momentum to pull ahead.

South Africa boasts the richest FA Cup competition on the continent with a national bank offering a $2.8-million prize kitty that includes $870,000 for the winners of the May 14 final.

The quarter-finals wrap up Monday when Orlando Pirates play Free State Stars.
